Admission Requirements & Courses

Program Overview

The increasingly multilingual reality of the United States has resulted in a growing demand for translators and interpreters who can facilitate communication through the translation of the Spanish language to and from English. The Bachelor’s degree in Spanish Translation and Interpreting is the first of its kind in the State of Texas. The program prepares future practitioners of the art and science of Translation and Interpreting to play a vital role in shaping the global society of the 21st century.

Students build the analytical skills, cultural literacy, linguistic competence, and professionalism needed by superior translators and interpreters. In addition to course offerings in writing and language, the program requires students to complete a translation and interpreting curriculum that is among the most comprehensive in the United States.

Possible Career Options

According to the latest data published by the U.S. Census, more than 25 million people in the United States speak English less than “very well,” and this includes 16 million Spanish speakers who are not fully proficient in English.

Graduates of the Spanish Translation and Interpreting program will have a variety of opportunities to develop a carrier as freelance translators/interpreters or as professionals working for translation agencies, non-profits, or federal agencies.

Definitely an incredible program! Full of support from amazingly talented professors and coordinators. I have found a passion and was helped to develop it in the most detailed way. The professors are amazing and I was lucky to be able to be taught by every single one of them.
