Lost & Found

The Lost and Found Office is located at University Police Department in Brownsville and Edinburg.

Items maintained in the Lost and Found include:

  • Backpacks
  • Books, notebooks, and planners
  • Cell phones
  • Computer equipment
  • Jewelry
  • Keys
  • Radios, iPods, MP3 players
  • Sport equipment
  • Sunglasses, prescription eyewear
  • Other miscellaneous items


Notification: The Campus Police maintains a database of items turned in. For found items, identified owners will be notified immediately and arrangements will be made to return the property.

Pick-up: Pick-up is by appointment only by calling (956) 882-7777 to schedule. To claim found property items, a valid photo ID is required (e.g. UTRGV Card, Texas Driver's License, official passport.) Property will not be released to anyone without an ID. Individuals must be able to accurately describe the property that was lost in order to claim property from the lost and found section.

Discarded Items:The following items are destroyed/discarded by the Lost and Found department:

  • Food and drink containers
  • Items that present a sanitation risk (soiled)
  • Property considered being a health hazard (e.g. chemicals)
  • Unclaimed property with little or no monetary value
  • Unclaimed data sensitive materials

Unclaimed Items: Any unidentifiable or unclaimed property will be held for 60 days in accordance with the University of Texas System Policy UTS162. All other unclaimed items are held for auction. For auction information, please contact Assets Management Office at 956-665-2790.

Reporting Lost Items: Lost property can be reported by calling (956) 882-7777, visiting Campus Police or by sending an email inquiry to [email protected] with a detailed description and date/location when lost.

Lost and Found Inquiry

If you have lost an item you can check the Lost & Found by completing the Inquiry Form.

PLEASE NOTE
You will only be contacted if your lost item is located or further description of the item is required by the Police Department staff.
Due to the number of lost item inquiries received, we are unable to respond to all submissions, if you do not receive a response, we were unable to locate your item.

Please be as detailed as possible when filling out the description of the item. We receive many lost items and a more descriptive request helps us process your information quicker.
